OVH, a French cloud provider that has been aggressively expanding in the US market, has agreed to buy VMware’s vCloud Air business for an undisclosed sum, the companies announced Tuesday. Just saw a tweet come through sounded out the news that VMware was shutting down the vCloud Air Service in Japan. This to me was a bit of a shock as I was under the impression that vCloud Air in Japan was strong and the Japanese market had embraced the service. vCloud Air is VMware's enterprise hybrid cloud offering. The company said in a statement that it has "evolved its business strategy to focus on providing hybrid and cross-cloud software and services. VMware is creating cloud software and cloud services for cloud providers. It’s important to note that given that’s narrower focus, we believe the capital expenses we’ve already invested in vCloud Air will be adequate for our needs and that we expect our vCloud Air service to be accretive by the end of 2017.
